Mortgage rate to go below 5.5%

UK, January 15th, 2008 - Almost 70 per cent of mortgage brokers believe the Bank of England base rate will finish the year below 5.5 per cent, it has been claimed.

Research  found that while most brokers expect the rate to finish below its current level, nine per cent think it will dip below 5.0 per cent by the end of the year.
The research advised that: "Despite the January decision to hold, our latest research reveals brokers expect the Bank of England base rate to fall throughout 2008 – many of which believing it will fall below five per cent."

A total of 61 per cent of brokers are predicting the bank rate will close between 5.0 per cent and 5.4 per cent and as a result, there are still several good deals on offer.
